Bio
Coach Haskin is a Michigan native growing up in the Detroit area and graduated from Sterling Heights High School. After graduating from Macomb Community College and Saginaw Valley State University, he moved to northern Michigan to work and raise his family.
As a SVSU Cardinal Don was voted the Track & Field Most Dedicated Athlete. He also earned First Team All-District in both indoor and outdoor track. After completing his degree, Don joined the SVSU coaching staff for seven years. As an assistant coach, he coached multiple national champions.
In 2010, Don was inducted into the SVSU Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1983 National Championship team. Before becoming Kirtland’s cross-country coach, he coached at the high level for more than thirty years, winning team and individual state titles. After teaching at the high school level, Don became superintendent where he earned the Region II Superintendent of the Year. Coach Haskin is in his 17th year as Kirtland’s head men’s and women’s coach. He has coached student-athletes to All-American and Academic All-American status. One female cross country runner was Indiana/Ohio/Michigan Athlete of the Year.
